About a year ago, I found a drinks trolley outside a shop that had a sign on it saying ‘please take me’. Ever since then, it has taken centre stage at every dinner party, garden party and/or dance party that we have had in our house.
I don’t wish our walls could talk. No, I wish the trolley could talk. It would probably tell you a few (rather embarrassing) stories about both the hosts and guests, and it would recall a whole heap of brilliant memories. Which is, of course, why it needs to come out yet again in a few weeks time, at Christmas.
It would normally be laden with an assortment of cocktail ingredients and accessories: liqueur, lemons, swizzle sticks, cork screws, martini glasses, mixer drinks etc, but this time, I think I will use it as a dessert trolley piled high with mince pies, christmas cake, brandy butter, and if I get my way, maybe even some lamingtons!
